Ace is a 2025 Indian Tamil-language romantic crime comedy film written, produced and directed by Arumuga Kumar. It stars Vijay Sethupathi and Rukmini Vasanth, alongside Yogi Babu, B. S. Avinash and Babloo Prithiveeraj.
Kumar’s 7Cs Entertainment officially announced the film in May 2023 under the tentative title Vijay Sethupathi 51, as it is the actor’s 51st film as the lead actor, and the official title was announced a year later. Principal photography took place predominantly in Malaysia from May to November 2023. The film has music composed by Justin Prabhakaran, background scored by Sam C. S., cinematography handled by Karan B. Rawat and editing by Fenny Oliver.
Ace premiered on 22 May 2025 in India, and was theatrically released worldwide on 23 May.
Plot (ACE Hindi Movie)
The story follows Kannan, a charismatic but enigmatic man who arrives in Malaysia to escape a shadowy criminal past, adopting the alias “Bold” Kannan. He befriends Arivu, a ragpicker who poses as a wealthy businessman to impress his girlfriend, Kalpana, providing comic relief with his bumbling antics. Kannan meets Rukku, a determined young woman working odd jobs to reclaim her late parents’ house from her abusive stepfather, Raja Durai, a corrupt police officer tied to local criminals. As Kannan grows close to Rukku, he’s drawn to her resilience, sparking a subtle romance. When Rukku faces a financial crisis—likely a debt threatening her family home—Kannan, revealing his poker skills and cunning, devises a heist targeting a casino or a figure in Raja Durai’s corrupt network. Arivu joins the plan, eager to prove himself, despite his inexperience adding comedic mishaps.The heist preparation showcases Kannan’s strategic mind, but the stakes rise with the introduction of Dharma, a ruthless loan shark connected to Raja Durai.
When the heist goes awry due to a betrayal or unexpected security, Kannan, Rukku, and Arivu are thrust into a chaotic chase, pursued by Dharma’s goons and Raja Durai’s corrupt allies. Action sequences mix tension with dark humor, as Arivu’s incompetence contrasts with Kannan’s quick thinking and Rukku’s resourcefulness. Flashbacks and encounters with old associates hint at Kannan’s past as a master conman or thief, driven by guilt or a lost love, though details remain vague. Cornered by Dharma and Raja Durai, Kannan uses poker-inspired bluffs and improvised tactics to outsmart them, possibly exposing their corruption or turning their greed against them in a clever, non-lethal takedown. A twist suggests Kannan may have anticipated the betrayal, using the chaos to secure Rukku’s future.In the end, Rukku reclaims her home, her romance with Kannan deepens, though his wanderer’s spirit lingers. Arivu reconciles with Kalpana, who accepts his true self. The trio reflects on their wild journey, blending heartfelt moments with humor. While Kannan’s past remains partially unresolved, hinting at future adventures.

Production
On 20 May 2023, 7Cs Entertainment officially announced that they would collaborate with director Aarumuga Kumar and Vijay Sethupathi. Both the director and actor previously collaborated for Oru Nalla Naal Paathu Solren (2017). Tentatively titled Vijay Sethupathi 51, Rukmini Vasanth was cast as the female lead, in her Tamil debut. Yogi Babu was also cast in a prominent role. Principal photography began the same month,and wrapped by 30 November. It was predominantly shot in Malaysia. The film’s official title, Ace, was announced on 17 May 2024. Cinematographer Karan B. Rawat, editor R. Govindaraj and production designer A. K. Muthu were revealed to be a part of the technical crew. Fenny Oliver later took over editing.
